Category Manager, Ecommerce

Location: Hong Kong-Hong Kong Island-Causeway Bay

Yahoo Ecommerce team is looking for an analytical, entrepreneurial, and energetic team-player to join our team.  The Manager will build and execute a strategy to grow market share and profitability across a set of categories and contribute to the growth of the business and team. 

You will be responsible for executing a comprehensive online merchandising strategy. You must be able to analyze category performance and react to company and industry sales trends; able to execute multiple projects and the ability to plan and organize. You must also gain an understanding of the complexities and unique growth opportunities in ecommerce. Goals will be tied to the success of attaining sales and profit targets, achieved through new vendors, products and promotions etc. You will also be responsible for optimizing storefronts and category pages to maximize conversion.

The ideal candidate has demonstrated success in managing external partnerships, negotiating, leading cross-functional teams to advance key business drivers, and executing a high-level, strategic plan while managing day-to-day operations and contributing to a developing team.  This role requires a balance between analytical thinking, effective communication, and creativity.  A passion for ecommerce is a plus. 

Responsibilities include:

·       Develop and implement category strategy to achieve revenue and profitability goals

·       Build strong relationships with existing merchants and execute negotiations to secure best pricing, sales programs, and promotional support

·       Advance catalog expansion, including the identification of selection gaps, the prioritization of new item production, and the development of relationships with new, target suppliers

·       Collaborate across functions to drive business goals (including Marketing, Sales, Business Development and Operations)

·       Analyze data to strategize profit growth opportunities for the category and for specific supplier partners

·       Partner closely with merchants to develop and enhance the our brand, site, and competitive positioning

·       Analyze competitors’ marketing, selection and pricing and make strategic changes and product scouting as needed

·       Maintain industry expertise; keep abreast of trends and new product ideas


·       2-5 years relevant experience, preferably in management consulting, ecommerce or retail environment

·       Demonstrated experience building a business or delivering against aggressive targets & goals in a fast-paced, rapidly evolving environment

·       Senior presence; able to clearly and consistently work side-by-side with a broad range of seniorities and functions to achieve objectives

·       Analytical thinker who looks for (and finds) answers in the data

·       Articulate, persuasive communicator with excellent negotiations and relationship-building skills

·       Ability to hit the ground running – a confident, entrepreneurial self-starter

·       Ability to manage and prioritize projects, and to delegate tasks appropriately

·       Innovative problem-solving skills – dissect and determine root causes of problems, and implement solutions

·       Experience in business and data analytics

·       Proven track record of taking ownership and driving results

·       Process oriented, with a tireless focus on quality of output and throughput

·       Passion for ecommerce is a plus
