Established by the Government in 1989, The Open University of Hong Kong (OUHK) has five schools, namely the School of Arts & Social Sciences, Lee Shau Kee School of Business & Administration, School of Education & Languages, School of Science & Technology, and the Li Ka Shing Institute of Professional & Continuing Education. Through them, we have been providing full-time and part-time programmes at undergraduate, post-graduate, and sub-degree levels.

Today we have over 9,000 full-time and 10,000 part-time students at OUHK with more than 220 programmes of studies.  The OUHK spirit is a culmination of a relentless pursuit of academic excellence and a creative approach to learning and teaching.  Reaching out to our next generation and across the borders through advanced web technologies has been our principal goal in the past years.

We are now inviting applications for the following post in the Educational Technology & Publishing Unit:

Programmer (Ref.: 16-P(QESS)-299-O)


The appointee will be required to support the Online Learning Environment’s daily operations which include the setting up of courses, creating user accounts, handling technical support hotline and uploading course contents. In addition, he/she will be required to assist in mobile learning development such as mobile apps and/or mini-games. He/she is also responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the existing e-learning administration system and the development of the modules such as creating MOOC interactive components which are funded by the QESS project.


Applicants should have a recognized degree in Computer Science or a related discipline, and with at least 1 year’s post qualification experience in programming and web systems design. Solid experience in web application development with ASP.NET and PHP, and knowledge of markup languages and scripting languages such as Javascript, JSON are required. Applicants with experience in 3d modelling using Maya/3ds Max will be an advantage.

Shortlisted candidates will be required to attend a trade test.

Terms of Appointment

Successful candidate will be appointed on a full-time fixed term contract.  Fringe benefits will include annual leave, medical & dental benefits and life insurance coverage, where applicable.
