The Innovation and Technology Development Office (ITDO) oversees (i) the advancement of major research and development initiatives with knowledge transfer potential as well as the management of intellectual property portfolio of the University; and (ii) the creation of new technology development and transfer opportunities through collaborative research/projects with the Government, non-government organizations, industry, and business communities. The ITDO supports the University’s mission to develop and apply technology arising from its research, resulting in the expanded use of University intellectual property in the Government, non-government organizations, industry, and business communities.
The appointee, under the supervision of the Director of Innovation and Technology Development or his delegates, will be required to:
(a) assist in development and execution of appropriate intellectual property (IP) management for harvesting of value and protection of IP;
(b) assist in IP promotion to facilitate trade exchange and knowledge transfer;
(c) assist in drafting agreement terms leading to successful alliances and technology transfer;
(d) develop and maintain relationships with University’s partners in both the public and private sectors to enhance technology and knowledge transfer;
(e) provide support to IP system, database management, and other IP-related matters;
(f) plan, organize, coordinate and implement events, meetings, seminars, workshops, projects and various marketing activities of the Office; and
(g) perform any other duties as assigned by the Director of Office or his delegates.
The appointee may be required to travel and to work irregular hours.
(a) have a recognized degree in a relevant area of Science and/or Engineering, preferably with relevant qualification in business, intellectual property, and/or law;
(b) possess at least five years of solid professional and relevant experience at supervisory level;
(c) have a good working knowledge in intellectual property, especially in patent;
(d) have a good understanding of technology transfer, business development, and licensing;
(e) be highly motivated, result-oriented, and be able to work under pressure;
(f) have a good command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (Cantonese and Putonghua); and
(g) possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited to sit for a written language proficiency test.
Remuneration and Conditions of Service
A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointment will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement. Applicants should state their current and expected salary in the application.
