The appointee will be required to (a) conduct lectures, practical sessions and tutorials at taught master’s and undergraduate levels in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Food Safety and Science and/or related disciplines; (b) supervise MPhil and PhD students; (c) establish a vigorous research programme at the cutting edge of microbiology (preferably non-clinical), food microbiology, food safety and quality of food and engage in other scholarly activities; and (d) contribute to departmental and programme administration as well as curriculum development.

Applicants should (a) have a PhD degree in the field of Food Microbiology, Food Science, Animal Science or a related area with particular background and interest in investigating the safety and quality of food products from animal livestock; (b) have an excellent publication record in peer-reviewed international journals, especially in the areas of food microbiology, pathogenesis, identification and control of food-borne pathogens in the production and processing of food; and (c) be highly motivated and possess creative talents to develop and apply the state-of-the-art techniques in the areas of safety and quality of foods from the farm to the consumer with a focus on utilization of advanced technologies, pathogenesis, proteomic and genomic as well as other molecular-based approaches to control foodborne pathogens. Preference will be given to those who have an undergraduate degree in Microbiology, Food Microbiology, Food Safety and Science or a related discipline.

Applicants should have relevant post-qualification experience in teaching and research, have an established track record in obtaining external funding/research grants, and be able to demonstrate evidence of possession of effective classroom teaching skills.

A highly competitive remuneration package will be offered. Initial appointments will be on a fixed-term gratuity-bearing contract. Re-engagement thereafter is subject to mutual agreement.
