Actuarial Manager

Location: Hong Kong

Manage and responsible for actuarial governance and compliance framework to ensure a smooth decision making process by management. Provide support on actuarial modeling and projects.


  • Manage the actuarial governance and compliance issues for the actuarial team, including coordination of the Company’s Board and Board committee meetings, execution of the governance requirements, as well as implementation of risk management framework.

  • Responsible for the maintenance and development of actuarial models, including the deterministic PROPHET model and the stochastic PROPHET ALS model, to ensure that a consistent set of actuarial models is being used for different purposes within the whole Actuarial department.

  • Incorporate actuarial models of newly priced products into the financial reporting model system.

  • Perform enhancements to actuarial models if required, e.g. reflect new management actions and new product features.

  • Provide technical and project management support on special actuarial projects assigned by the Team Head and/or the Chief Actuary, in collaboration with the BAU actuarial teams.

  • Assist in constructing technical responses to actuarial queries from external stake holders, including regulators, regional office and the UK home office

  • Supervise members within the team and provide ongoing coaching on actuarial / product/ insurance knowledge

Qualifications and Experience

  • Fellow of the Societies of Actuaries or equivalent

  • University graduate majoring in Actuarial Science or equivalent curriculum

  • At least 7 years of relevant experience with minimal of 2 year at supervisory level

  • 2-3 years of experience in actuarial governance and compliance management


  • Solid experience in life insurance industry, preferably with UK with-profits management, economic capital (e.g. Solvency II) and financial reporting experience.

  • Modeling experience with PROPHET and stochastic modeling software (e.g. PROPHET ALS) is essential

  • Actuarial consultancy background or experience in project management is a plus

  • Ability to transform complex technical actuarial issues into simple business concepts in presenting to senior management

  • Experience in coaching junior actuarial staff and managing a team

  • A team player with strong communication and interpersonal skills, able to work independently and under pressure

  • Good command of both spoken and written English and Chinese
