Job Description

In-House Legal Counsel

Location: Hong Kong-NA-Hong Kong

Currently we are looking for a capable and independent individual for the following position as part of the multi-disciplinary team.

Arup’s East Asia Region is seeking a self-motivated and highly organised Legal Counsel to join the growing in-house legal team head-quartered in Hong Kong. Reporting to the Region Legal Director the successful candidate will have a client-focused attitude, the ability to self-manage and be responsible for providing pragmatic advice and support in a front-line role across a broad range of legal and commercial matters.
The successful candidate will assume a diverse role within the Hong Kong based East Asia legal team. Due to the breadth of the legal team’s function, the role will provide opportunities to grow skills and knowledge in a broad range of areas.

• Provide legal / commercial advice on all aspects of Arup’s professional services business
• Provide advice on and assist negotiate Arup’s contracts, procurement models and sub-consultancy arrangements
• Support project teams in problem solving and provide strategic legal advice
• Take a leading role in assisting resolution of disputes
• Contribute to the legal team’s collective know-how, maintain precedent documents and prepare guidance notes for the business
• Develop and deliver training to the business
• Advise on new legislative and regulatory requirements and recommend changes to policies and administration as appropriate

Qualifications & Experience required:
• Degree qualified and at least 2 years PQE of construction and / or professional negligence litigation in Hong Kong or other relevant jurisdiction
• In-depth knowledge of construction law and the construction industry
• Knowledge and experience of professional negligence liability
• Experience of other general aspects of commercial dispute resolution preferred (including contractual disputes, fee claims and insurance law)
• Detailed and up-to-date knowledge and experience of alternative methods for dispute resolution
• Proven ability to work creatively and analytically in a problem solving environment
• Excellent communication, planning and organisational skills
• Able to demonstrate strong commercial awareness
