Morgan Stanley Asia is seeking a China Economist (Senior Associate or Junior Vice President) to work with our Chief China Economist and the Greater China Research team with Economics research effort for China, via close collaboration with both global and regional economics research teams.
Based in Hong Kong, the China Economist is a critical role with a direct reporting line into the Chief China Economist and a dotted line into the Global Economist.
Key Responsibilities:
• Be engaged in rigorous economic research and analysis for the Chinese economy
• Publish research reports outlining our cyclical and structural views on the Chinese economy
• Identify and formulate short, medium and long-term views and the macro / market implications on the Chinese economy
• Conduct macro-modelling and time series analysis
• Interact frequently with institutional clients
• Help clients reach investment conclusions through fundamental data analysis & support
• Collaborate with sales and traders in presentation of views to clients
• Undertake research projects as and when necessary*LI-JG1


• Bilingual communication skills in spoken and written English and Mandarin (native or near native-level) a must
• A strong educational background in Economics, Statistics, Econometrics or equivalent; a Master’s degree or PhD advantageous
• A deep understanding of the Chinese economy
• At least 3-5 years of work experience as an economist with an international financial institution such as an investment or asset management firm, a government body, a bank, a think tank, or a macroeconomics research company
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills in interacting effectively with multiple stakeholders globally and regionally
• Business acumen necessary
• Detail-oriented, proactive with initiative, resourceful, enthusiastic and able to think on their feet
