General Accountability

The primary purpose of the role is to develop, engage and retain the right talent, at the right time, for the right cost to ensure Manulife operates as a high performing organization and attains its business objectives. The individual will engage with business and HR leadership across their jurisdiction to analyse talent needs, design and develop products to meet that need, execute on the product and evaluate its performance. The primary alignment to strategy will be to the regional and global talent priorities as defined clearly in the talent strategy and innovate to satisfy market specific needs. They will also lead regional/ global projects as needed and required for the organisation to achieve their objectives.

In Asia, the CoE will support the achievement of Asia business strategy through talent priorities focussed on managerial effectiveness, talent development, building local bench strength, and gender diversity.

  • Partner with the Regional talent lead and the market CHRO and senior business leaders to develop talent strategy for the region that supports Manulife’s business strategy in the region whilst being aligned to Manulife’s global talent strategy and agenda. Facilitate integration of talent objectives into the cluster/BU strategic plans
  • Drive local and regional initiatives aligned to the four pillars of the regional talent strategy in their jurisdiction
  • Drive Talent programme management within market, and regionally where applicable
  • Have insight into the market talent pool and succession pipeline individually and collectively in order to ensure we are using the right products for the development of talent and building talent pipeline internally and externally. Have career discussions and initiate development planning with HiPos
  • Initiate programmatic and non-programmatic talent development for HIPos in their market while using globally approved and consistent tools and practices
  • Lead the talent review and succession planning exercise for the market and bring out key insights to strengthen the bench
  • Be part of the regional talent leadership team developing products and solutions that are scalable and high impact for business success
  • Collaborate and coordinate with regional and global talent teams to ensure global consistency of programs/content, talent processes and tools, and raise/respond to market needs when necessary
  • Assume regional accountability for a global practice area
  • Provide the feedback loop between BU and Regional Talent team
  • Train and educate leaders, managers and employees on talent management tools and practices as relevant. Especially significant in deployment of talent review and succession planning process
  • Is part of the market HR leadership team
  • Talent Partners will lead or participate in Global programs as assigned, i.e. EVP, Assessments, Development Programming, Talent Review Program Development (ADP, LDP, GM) SWP, Career Architecture
  • Provide oversight to Professional Development, Management Development and Leadership Development in the Market/Client group in collaboration with GLL
  • Partner with Talent Acquisition in the market mapping/ identification of skills and capabilities required to execute on market strategy in the short and medium term
  • Ensure that all practices have the Manulife behaviours/ Success Profile as a foundation and fit with Manulife’s culture
  • Leverage external networks to identify industry best practices
  • Deploy and monitor solutions & programs to division/function
  • Responsible for the local market talent budget


Required Skills/Knowledge/Competencies
  • 7-10 years of comprehensive HR experience. Some talent management experience preferred
  • Experience in executing large scale region-wide HR projects with multiple variables and senior stakeholders
  • Proven experience in HR product design and development
  • Ability to work well with all levels of the organization, with experience working in a virtual team and matrix organization environment
  • Financial services experience preferred, but not essential
  • Familiarity with project management tools like MS Project etc.
  • Experience in leading, managing and developing a team will be an asset
  • Excellent planning, organising, coordinating, reporting skills
  • Superior influencing, stakeholder and relationship management skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities while delivering high results
  • Strong project management skills
