Infrastructure Solutions Architect – GTI - Hong Kong
Global Technology Infrastructure (GTI) is the technology infrastructure organization for the Firm, delivering a wide range of products and services, and partnering with all lines of business to provide high quality service delivery, exceptional project execution and financially disciplined approaches and processes in the most cost effective manner.
The Solution Architecture team within GTI has a mission is to generate application infrastructure designs based on the Firm’s businesses, application’s and infrastructure partner’s current and future requirements.
They key remit of the team is to:
  • Engage with App Teams early on in design process, driving to influence app design as much as infrastructure design
  • Provide an efficient design experience, including fast-track options for simple designs
  • Influence direction of GTI services, via providing feedback to service owners on ability of business areas to adopt those services, and scale down to local branch requirements
  • Drive Standardization and adoption of GTI Services within application designs, including adoption of cookie-cutter designs based on standard offerings
  • Drive educational efforts to make GTI services well understood among its customers
  • Aggregate business feedback on GTI services and communicate this effectively to service owners – help influence future product roadmaps
  • Provide Application and Infrastructure expertise – provide deep Subject Matter Expertise to business groups, either from solution architecture or elsewhere across GTI. This might include consultancy engagements
  • Guide development teams through firm-wide changes – such as Drive to Cloud, Encryption and Data Masking, Security, How to meet Sustained Resiliency via application design, hosting in new DMZ constructs, development and driving standard templates, and standardized developer toolsets
This role is an Infrastructure Solution Architect within Asia Pacific (ex-India). This is a senior position with the expectation of broad and deep technology skills across a range of disciplines, plus well-developed communication, presentation and business management skills. The expectation is to recruit a strong technical leader who can operate across both technology and the business at a senior level.
The ideal candidate would have both a strong application development and infrastructure background. Coding/development skills are expected despite the role sitting inside the infrastructure organization.
The Solutions Architect is accountable for the development of cost effective end to end technical solutions, and is the design authority for the prescribed solution. Working in partnership with the technical service areas as needed, external vendors and project management team as required. There is implicit accountability for the solution working as designed.
Primary responsibilities: 
  • Partnering with senior Architects and Business Application Development teams to understand functional requirements of a given project/application
  • Engagement with senior technology and business stakeholders in the APAC region
  • Accountability to develop a key technical solution to meet those requirements as well as firm-wide cost, resiliency and control requirements, leveraging standard building blocks as much as possible
  • Partnering with internal GTI experts from the Service Towers in review of any edge case design or net new product requirement  
  • Arranging and monitoring a solution to completion and ensuring project setup across GTI for success
  • Maintaining an effective technical network across GTI, knowing the “Go-To” SMEs in multiple service areas
  • Developing an effective network of senior Architects across regional Business Areas

Hard Skills / Requirements:
Engineering Degree in a technical discipline or similar experience
 
Strong thought leadership and hands-on technical skills in one or more of these areas:
  • Networking – Routing, Switches, Firewall, Load Balancing, Network Design, Low Latency networking, Market Data Networking, Exchange connectivity
  • Compute  – x86 server virtualization, automation and optimisation
  • Enterprise – Mainframe, Large Mid-Range (iSeries/Tandem/Vax)
  • Infrastructure Applications – Database, Messaging, Big Data
  • Development – Continuous Delivery, Java, Python, C#, agile, scrum, DevOps, microservices
 
Broad base technical knowledge covering:
  • At least one major development language (C/C++/Java)
  • Knowledge of multi-processing and multi-threading, and experience of such
  • Understanding Active/Active, Recovery methodologies at Disk and DB layers
  • Proven experience managing and working with culturally diverse and geographically distributed teams
  • Experience working through an application lifecycle from start to finish
  • Experience troubleshooting a project gone wrong and working to fix it, adjusting to major scope/design change
  • Experience working within large global organization and building and maintaining a global network
  • Demonstrated ability establishing credibility with business executives, along with presenting to and influencing senior management
  • Effective Project and Programme Management skills
Key Differentiators for Ideal candidate:
  • Must align with corporate values and direction and add to the team dynamic
  • Multi-Year Experience as Application Architect in addition to skills as Infrastructure Architect
  • Experience in application development for large scale transaction systems, enterprise data systems, and highly resilient systems
  • Ability to deal successfully with ambiguity and influence change (sometimes in the absence of direct reporting lines)
  • Experience of having worked in an Application Development function and Infrastructure function
