Corporate Finance- Global Real Estate Finance Controller – Associate

Corporate Controllers is part of the JPMorgan Chase & Co (JPM). Global Finance organization. Corporate Controllers includes approximately 1,500 colleagues, with functional operating units encompassing Corporate Accounting Policies, Corporate Regulatory Policy & Reporting, Corporate Financial Reporting, Corporate Sector Accounting, Global Finance Operations (GFO), Global Finance India, and Finance Platform Strategy & Controls. Working together, our strengths and resources enable us to ensure the integrity of the JPMorgan Chase consolidated books and records, and the results of individual legal entities within the Firm. The Corporate Controllers function is focused on ensuring accountability and improving the organization's credibility. We focus on accounting, financial controls, systems and reporting.
Global Real Estate Accounting is seeking a high energy, results driven Accounting Controller to support APAC Real Estate, within the Corporate Sector Line of Business. APAC Real Estate is responsible for an occupancy portfolio of approximately 5 million square feet across 17 countries. The APAC Real Estate Controller will be responsible for assisting in the APAC month-end financial close and reporting activities, including the APAC implementation of the Firm’s new construction project management systems and managing the APAC monthly construction project accounting and reporting processes.
The position is aligned with the Global Finance - Corporate Controllers organization and is accountable for the integrity of financial reporting, internal control environment, and closing transaction cycles. Specific responsibilities include the following:
  • Responsible for timely and accurate month-end close process, including the following:
    • developing accrual estimates,
    • posting of journal entries to the general ledger, 
    • assessing transaction activity for proper accounting treatment, and
    • capitalizing fixed assets and review construction work in progress accounts
  • Prepare APAC balance sheet and investigate monthly balance sheet, income statement and general ledger account variances and provide written explanations
  • Perform monthly reconciliation and certification of balance sheet accounts
  • Support  reserve calculations process with US team, prepare monthly journals, reconcile with financial ledgers and reporting to US
  • Liaise with outsourced service providers for facilities maintenance accounting, service charge accounting and rental billing on sublet properties
  • Support ad hoc reporting and analysis across Global Real Estate as needed
  • Review and improve key accounting processes to ensure processes are efficient and effective
  • Assist Global Real Estate Finance team in creating annual budgets and updating mid-year forecasts
  • Participate in control environment activities (SOX compliance/Controlled Self Assessments)
  • Establish and maintain relationships with finance and operations groups in Global Real Estate as well as Line of Business contacts
  • Ability to coordinate multiple responsibilities within predetermined timeliness is essential
  • Bachelors' degree in accounting required
  • Minimum 2-4 years of accounting experience required, working in a high volume, fast-paced environment
  • Real Estate industry experience preferred but not essential
  • Big Four public accounting experience, large corporate, and/or CPA, or equivalent, strongly preferred
  • Creative self starter with strong initiative, ability to take ownership and work independently as well as contribute to the broader team
  • Structured mindset with process/continuous improvement orientation
  • Team player, able to work well with multiple LOBs and across a wide variety of functions
  • Ability to multi-task and be hands on in a fast paced environment to meet deadlines under pressure
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical and financial skills
  • Technology Requirements: Experience with automated financial systems (SAP), database management, worksheet-modeling tools (Excel, Access), and Essbase experience preferred
