CIB F&BM & Control Agenda - Asia Investment Banking Control — Debt Capital Markets – Associate/VP - Hong Kong

The Team
Asia Investment Banking consists of M&A, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets (bonds and loan Origination) and Investment Banking Coverage (IBC) .
The function of the Controller team:
  • Responsible for the overall integrity and accuracy of the financial statements
  • Overall governance of the transaction control cycle
  • Driving control agenda requirements such as SOX & RCSA
  • Preparation of regulatory returns for the business including ownership of the balance sheet, reported P&L and adherence to regulatory and financial/accounting standards.
  • Advise the business on accounting, regulatory, tax and other specific deal accounting matters
    The Asia IB Controller team is seeking a highly motivated candidate to develop their career & gain a broad experience across DCM and the broader control agenda. The team is involved with the core capital market finance raising business and partners with a multitude of stakeholders to deliver on the product control agenda whilst providing the business meaningful and timely support and analysis.     
    Role description:
    The individual will cover a wide range of responsibilities including:
  • Controller for  Debt Capital Markets (bonds & loans) for the APAC region (Emerging Asia, Australia and Japan)
  • Leading and driving key capital market related control and compliance initiatives to an efficient and effective conclusion such as the Risk Control Self-Assessment & SOX requirements.
  • General Ledger - responsibility for the ownership, review and sign-off of balance sheet and P&L statements
  • Month-end close - ensuring accurate and complete close-off of books & records for the month ensuring all close-off entries, FX trade-outs and resolution of any Front office-GL breaks as well as daily reporting of close-off PL is completed on a timely basis.
  • Tracking, analyzing and investigating spot and average balance sheet, RWA and related performance measures
  • Preparation of Regulatory Reporting returns applicable to the business.
  • Partnering with key stakeholders (Front Office, Middle Office, Operations, Legal Entity Control, Tax) to review current practices/processes, identifying deficiencies and/or weaknesses, and delivering solutions to enhance the current control and reporting environment.
  • Partnering with global counterparts to ensure consistency in regional practices where applicable
  • Ad hoc queries and projects as required in a dynamic business environment


Qualifications/Skills required
  • Minimum 6years experience with accounting / financial services background
  • Ability to develop understanding of technical accounting concepts and effectively communicate the impact to senior business leaders
  • Control mindset with strong attention to detail
  • Dynamic team player able to adapt to changing environment and multiple demands
  • Excellent  interpersonal, written & verbal communication and influencing skills
  • Proactive, keen to learn and take on new responsibility
  • Strong organizational and time management skills: able to work on multiple projects with competing deadlines
  • Confidence in liaising with stakeholders across different functions & levels of seniority
