Scope of the Role:

Equities F&BM is seeking an VP business manager, based in Hong Kong, to support the Asia Equity Derivative Sales business from an end-to-end perspective.  As part of the Asia Equities Business Management team, the successful candidate will partner closely with other BMs across Equities and the Sales & Marketing franchise.  They will also partner closely with all support functions including Finance, Operations, Technology, Compliance and others to deliver upon the requirements of the business.  The role will involve significant exposure to the front office and extensive interaction with senior management, including direct support of the Heads of Asia-Pacific Equity Sales and their immediate directs.  The role will report into the Asia Equities Sales Business Manager, also based in Hong Kong.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Drive strategy and growth:
    • Act as trusted advisor and counterweight to Business Heads and their management team. Provide management assistance, for instance by convening business reviews and management meetings
    • Establish business strategy and priorities (in conjunction with Business Heads)
    • Develop business cases for the commitment of resources
    • Ensure delivery of business initiatives and projects - provide overall governance across multiple initiatives
    • Align front office teams and support groups (Fin, Tech, Ops, Legal, HR) to business priorities
    • Ensure business strategy considers market structure and regulatory changes
    • Drive competitive analysis and reporting (in conjunction with central team)
    • Communicate business strategy, performance and priorities
    • Contribute to strategic initiatives by supporting regional, cross-business and industrial partnerships; support strategic acquisitions and/or investment analysis
    • Partner with the business and technology to establish and implement the product/technology strategy
  • Partner with the Client Relationship Management team including:
    • Client mapping/ Planning
    • Work with Account Managers to analyze broker results and devising an action plan to cover gaps and manage the tracking of the action plan.
    • Provide governance, analysis, and framework for the client-servicing tiering process
    • Manage the sales credit (AFR) allocation processes and infrastructure
    • Maintain communication with US, EMEA, Japan, and Australia counterparts on status of global clients and sharing of best practices
    • Manage alpha capture
    • Review external survey data sets (ie. McLagan/Coalition/Greenwich) and collate with internal data to identify revenue opportunities
    • Continuously evaluate the sales process to identify process efficiencies, new/improved tool sets to help better monetize revenue/wallet share opportunities
  • Manage business risks and support the control environment:
    • Identify, assess and mitigate business risks that could impair the ability to do business across the multiple countries the franchise spans:
    • Specific & immediate threats (e.g. regulatory violations, tax law changes, ability to handle credit events, capacity issues, extraordinary transaction costs)
    • Compounded problems (e.g. under-investment in product workflow across several support areas)
    • Underlying risks (e.g. fraud, new competitive forces, market failure, commitment-related/underwriting risks)
    • Risks within new product build out (own NBIA process)
    • Key person dependencies across the end-to-end business
    • Ensure that effective business continuity plans exist
    • Partner with all control functions to support the enhancement of the control and compliance environment including contributing to remedial programs relating to regulatory inspections
  • Optimize business performance and planning:
    • Optimize 'bottom line' business performance by driving key initiatives (brokerage, fees, cost base, RWA and capital utilization)
    • Lead annual business budget process (in conjunction with Planning and Analysis)
    • Ensure optimal resource budgeting and allocation to achieve business priorities (including directs, finance, technology, operations and other indirects)
    • Oversee investment/productivity initiatives across the end-to-end business to achieve multi-year targets
    • Lead client analysis and account planning
    • Oversight for real estate needs and space planning as required
  • Other:
    • Contribute to IB and F&BM agendas
    • Contribute to F&BM annual objectives and agenda
    • Promote IB values and culture

Qualifications

  • Preferred experience in a related business function: Business Management, Middle Office, Technology and/or Equity Sales, however, solid experience from one or a number of the following businesses is acceptable:
    • Capital markets
    • Trading business environment
    • A private equity / hedge fund
    • The investment arm of a financial institution
  • Knowledge could include but not be limited to:
    • Understanding of front-to-back trade / booking flows and best practices for Cash Equities
    • Understanding of Cash sales processes and the client/investor landscape
    • Knowledge of Technology within financial institutions and experience in planning and building efficient systems
    • Operations and general administration experience on a regional or global level
    • Understanding of legal, compliance and regulatory requirements for financial institutions
  • Core Skills Required
