Senior Independent Model Review Manager - Global Risk

Location: Asia Pacific-Hong Kong-Hong Kong Island-Central

Global Risk is a thriving and expert risk management function supporting HSBC globally with all aspects of risk management. The team actively manages a varied and dynamic range of risk types, including security, fraud, information security, contingency, geopolitical, operational, credit, pension, insurance, financial crime and regulatory compliance, market and reputation risks. All parts of the Global Risk team use their skills, insight and integrity to handle established threats and those they see emerging, acting to protect and enable HSBC to deliver sustainable growth.
We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Senior Independent Model Review Manager.
Principal responsibilities
  • To support Model Oversight Committees in the Region as the forum to oversight Risk models, monitor and enhance model performance, including provision of model review report to drive model decision.
  • To carry out Independent Review for risk models developed in Asia Pacific as well as to support other regions review work.
  • To develop and maintain Independent Model Review policy and framework that facilitate model review.
  • Regulatory and Risk Analytics, Risk Strategy, Global and regional businesses teams Interaction with HSBC Asia Pacific Model Oversight Committees on model related matters.
  • To independently and proactively manage own time and stakeholders relationship and expectations, including defining and controlling project scope, timelines, deliverables in line with Independent Model Reviews global quality standards through establishment of clear and regular communication with  model developers, model owners and users, Model Oversight Committees, and regulators, as well as crucially being capable to clearly articulate, debate and convince stakeholders of Independent Model Reviews view as required during the course of model reviews.
  • Ensure Credit Independent Model Review in Asia is operating in agreement with agreed policies, standards and guidelines.
  • Ensure model limitations are correctly understood and managed in Asia and that implementation of Independent Model Review techniques and other associated methodologies.


  • Postgraduate degree in Statistics, Operations Research, or a related field.
  • Working across various modelling areas of the organisation to understand requirements of different type of model and applicability of different techniques.
  • Experience of establishing and driving forward an Independent Model Review framework.
  • Experience of interfacing with Audit and Regulators.
  • Experience of creating and leading a team.
  • Experience of project management.
  • Has developed a satisfactory level of professional competence which helps to determine model related solutions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
