Senior Development Specialist - HSBC Operations, Services and Technology

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Senior Development Specialist.
Principal responsibilities
  • Act as the Business partner to provide consultation and technical solutions to business problems under Global Trade Receivables Finance
  • Be the Technical Leader and Scrum Master to manage projects from requirement definition, impact assessment to implementation ensuring alignment to strategy, business requirements and benefits are met, on time, within budget and of highest quality. 
  • Provide technical leadership and consultation to project team members.  Lead, facilitate and chair regular project, Agile Scrum meetings and follow up with team members as required to focus on business and operational issues or technical issues, documenting, assigning and monitoring all project issues to ensure clearance with minimal impact to project progress. 
  • Deliver business requirements to plan, whilst remaining sufficiently flexible to accommodate short notice, high profile requirements that arise out of plan.
  • Provide leadership in setting strategic architectural and software direction
  • Manage vendor communication and integration with HSBC in house application and system.
  • Provide post implementation support, identify process improvement and problem prevention.
  • Adhere to, and be able to demonstrate adherence to, internal controls including timely implementation of audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant internal instructions and external regulatory requirements, including the management of operational risk, security and adherence to the Group’s standards of ethical behaviour and reaction to management.
  • Ensure that risks and problems are managed at current level, and escalated efficiently with the minimum disruption to the business.
  • Adopt and share standards, tools, best practices, principles for cost, quality and productivity improvement.
  • Maintain effective and good relationship between the business and the IT Project team, managing appropriate business expectations and negotiating compromise where appropriate.
  • Maintain good exposure and develop knowledge in new techniques, products, services, technologies and standards.


  • University degree in computer science, information technology or a related discipline.
  • Work experience in the financial industry, specifically in system development, implementation, business process re-engineering, system integration or operation support
  • Proven track record in delivering projects successfully.
  • Strong leadership skill, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team or on an individual basis.
  • Technical competent in Java, Dojo, Visual Basic, Linux, Solaris and Oracle. Knowledge in AS400 and RPG will be an advantage.
  • Solid project management skills in initiation, analysis, design, test and transition. PMP and Agile SCRUM certification would be an advantage.
  • Familiarity with Trade business, experience in inter organizational system integration is a strong asset.
  • Familiarity with the HSBC standards and processes like Agile would be useful.
  • Experience in vendor management would be useful.
  • Effective communication skills in spoken and written English.
  • With a positive, proactive and can do attitude.
  • Willing to travel overseas and Mainland China when required
