Hong Kong Chief Control Officer - HSBC Operations, Services and Technology

We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Hong Kong Chief Control Officer.
Principal responsibilities
  • Provide input to the overall Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer strategy, ensuring appropriate controls are implemented and monitored and that all services and technology are delivered in line with the Bank’s risk appetite whilst adhering to all regulatory requirements. 
  • Identify and proactively manage current and emerging risks related to changes to services, processes and systems, across all functions, delivered by or impacting Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer and related functions.
  • Deliver safer processes and technology, bringing rigour and consistency to controls testing across Hong Kong and addressing gaps in the completion of end to end risk and control activities.  This will be achieved by implementing and overseeing governance processes, intervening in Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer activities where necessary and agreeing subsequent actions with key Chief Operating Officer senior managers, working across multiple HSBC Operations, Services and Technology functions. 
  • Mitigate future and emerging risks to the Bank’s operational processes and systems by identifying the need for intervention within Chief Operating Officer and HSBC Operations, Services and Technology and working with the Centres of Excellence to define projects and ensure the provision of suitable control expertise. 
  • Enhance the control environment through the delivery of robust controls testing, working with the Chief Control Officer Centres of Excellence to plan, resource and execute testing within Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer and HSBC Operations, Services and Technology teams. 
  • Identify enhancements within Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer and HSBC Operations, Services and Technology and work with Chief Control Officer Leadership Team to implement enhancements, sharing with colleagues and stakeholders and facilitating proliferation of best practice across the Chief Control Officer function. 
  • Facilitate board level decision making through insightful and concise recommendations from risk and control management reports.
  • Increase awareness and engagement across Chief Operating Officer and HSBC Operations, Services and Technology teams, and ensure risk is considered proactively in all Chief Operating Officer and HSBC Operations, Services and Technology activities. 
  • Report to the Regional Chief Control Officer and Hong Kong Chief Operating Officer on the end to end health of the control environment, identifying and communicating the need for intervention, and sharing best practice with other country Chief Control Officer teams. 
  • Work with Risk Culture Centres of Excellence teams to define and execute risk communication and engagement plans across Hong Kong teams. 
  • Support HSBC board members to write papers for use of regulators, auditors and other external bodies.


  • University Graduate with professional audit or operational risk management qualification 
  • Proven experience in Risk Management within a global organisation, working across cultures
  • Ability to present complex issues confidently and concisely to Group Executives, Non Executives and Regulators, using simple language and accommodating globally distributed stakeholders. 
  • Outstanding relationship management, collaboration and influencing skills with experience of positive, challenging interactions with senior executives across multiple functions. 
  • Outstanding interpersonal and communication skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively and confidently at all levels across the Group. 
  • High level of drive and self motivation to ensure delivery of a broad range of outputs simultaneously in a matrix environment.
