We are currently seeking a high caliber professional to join our team as Core Banking Product Specialist.
Principal responsibilities
  • Driving sustainable growth. Develop the IT sub function responsibly engaging with colleagues across the function including peer Senior Managers and typically two levels up the organisation reviewing and driving the sub function strategy feeding into the overall IT strategy, facilitates change through effective communication, preparation and implementation with peers across HSBC.
  • Strong impact to support risk and regulation, may be responsible for their own niche products. Governance role within the IT sub function.
  • Achieving excellence. Focuses on medium and long term goals even when under pressure or facing uncertainty.
  • Manages expectations, results and impact of agreed outcomes, thinking ahead to identify and overcome potential issues, benefitting from a good network of Senior Managers to collectively identify and mitigate risk. Responsible for the end to end user experience of their portfolio.
  • Change Portfolio definition, planning and execution.
  • Supports construction of portfolio strategy and definition of budgets facilitates discussions and influences stakeholders.
  • Steers and guides the team to deliver change implementation activities, and provides regular updates to stakeholders, responsible for end to end change journey.
  • The role holder will work collaboratively with senior managers from other areas in IT to ensure stakeholder and customers requirements are met. They may have key relationships directly with the customer, discussing functional strategies, upcoming technologies, and potential risk and regulator issues vendors such as Microsoft, Cisco.
  • Customer focus. Support a customer centred culture, championing activities encouraging outstanding customer advocacy. Proactively seek opportunities to utilize IT services to improve a business operation in collaboration with Purchasing and Information Security Risk, amongst others.
  • Strengthening stakeholder relationships. Build and support relationships to influence decisions and ensure stakeholder advocacy, using organisational knowledge aligned to business goals and strategies. Interacts with stakeholders to understand the customer experience, maintain the one to one contact in support of the products.
  • Deliver fair outcomes for our customers and ensure own conduct maintains the orderly and transparent operation of financial markets.


  • The Core Banking Product and Portfolio Specialist is located in Hong Kong. Responsible for the management of the IT Core Banking Portfolio and its alignment with business strategy execution and order book demand.
  • Reporting functionally into Senior Product and Portfolio Manager within the Retail Products IT structure.
  • Responsible for planning, directing, and supporting the implementation of Group Core Banking Strategic objectives. 
  • The channel for Regional Heads of Core Banking, Product Management in raising requirements under the Global and Regional Core Banking portfolios.
  • Provides subject matter expertise on portfolio management tooling giving advice to priority and enterprise wide programmes.
  • Develops and manages relationship with the global regional business and its functions.
  • Works with business partners to agree due process on financial challenges and to agree allocation and prioritization of funding across projects.
  • Ensures all projects maintain adherence to agreed budgets, and that projected over runs are flagged early and resolutions agreed.
  • Tracks high probability and high impact portfolio, programmes and project risk issues also helps to facilitate the resolution process.
  • Oversees management of Core Banking IT budget.
  • Assist in the definition, documentation, and approval for Software Club apportionment recovery metrics pertaining to Core Banking facilitates resolution of concerns or questions pertaining to recovery metrics, as needed.
  • Sound knowledge of Product and Portfolio Management concepts.
  • Experience in budget management and use of numerical data to assesses and report on performance and or identify business issues and opportunities.
  • Past experience of creating and deploying comprehensive business operating plans which consistently deliver desired results.
  • Strong people leadership, team work, gathering information and analysing, judgment and decision making skills.
  • Excellent written and spoken communication skills ability to communicate with impact, ensuring complex information is articulated in a meaningful way to wide and varied audiences.
