Job Description

Manager, Communications & Public Affairs

The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (“HKTDC”), the statutory organisation promoting Hong Kong’s external trade, seeks a dynamic and high caliber professional to join our Corporate Communications & Marketing Department.

Reporting to the Head of Communications and Public Affairs (H/CPA), the job-holder will oversee strategic corporate content development and communications, multimedia content development, social media (International) and team management. Responsibilities include:

  • To develop and implement publicity and communication programmes to promote the HKTDC’s executives and corporate themes on an on-going basis; to draft publicity-related editorial such as key messages, line-to-take, speeches, talk notes, press releases, publicity plans, correspondence and other related material as needed
  • To drive publicity exposure through content generation; to manage Belt and Road-related corporate statistics and success stories and produce specified content (success stories, news and others) for the HKTDC’s Belt and Road Portal and promotion campaigns
  • To source and manage vendors and third-party suppliers to ensure timely, on-budget and quality output content
  • To produce multimedia content based on the HKTDC’s corporate and project needs to ensure the HKTDC brand, corporate themes and project promotion messages are presented in a clear and user-friendly way that expands our audience
  • To assist and advise other departments on multimedia production guidelines and vendors to ensure consistency with HKTDC style, quality and messaging throughout the Council
  • To develop and drive audience for the HKTDC’s video and multimedia content through various internal and external channels; to coordinate with digital marketing team to grow audience traffic through content
  • To supervise content and promotions on international social media account(s), in coordination with other social media team heads (Hong Kong, Greater China) and digital marketing team; and to coordinate with other CPA and project teams to ensure a balanced, timely and accurate representation of the HKTDC’s full spectrum of services
  • To act as campaign and marketing content consultant for Belt and Road and related themes
  • To oversee, supervise and coach the team to ensure quality control, maximum productivity and budget and operational compliance
  • To assist H/CPA in developing department operating guidelines and ensuring team compliance, and to support H/CPA with publicity for other projects and work as assigned


  • University degree in communications, marketing, or other relevant disciplines
  • At least 12 years’ solid working experience, preferably in editorial, corporate communications, marketing and/or related media fields
  • Excellent writing and editorial skills in English and Chinese (including verbal Putonghua)
  • Experience managing external parties and multiple internal parties in a corporate affairs/corporate communications/editorial management role
  • Strong working knowledge of multi-platform communications including video and social media content management
  • Solid working knowledge of international business, economics & current affairs and overall grasp of the international journalistic landscape
  • Good planning and organisation, project management and administrative skills
  • Strong leadership, excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in an agile, dynamic, fast-paced environment, as well as solve complex business challenges in a timely manner

Remuneration and Benefits:

The successful candidate will be offered a two-year contract with prospects for renewal upon expiry. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus an appropriate contract-end gratuity. Medical benefits and annual leave will be offered.
