Professor / Associate Professor / Assistant Professor (in Translation)

Applications are invited for the following position in the Translation Programme. The Programme was established in 1990 with the aim of training sophisticated cross-cultural communicators to serve the local community and the mainland, and has since become one of the leading such programmes in the region.
All qualified applicants will be considered. Preference will be given to those with expertise in translation technology (including computer-aided translation and machine translation), translation-related applications of big data, localisation, or translation-related digital humanities. The ability to teach related linguistics courses will be considered an advantage. An excellent command of both Chinese and English is essential. Applicants with additional expertise in a third language will be considered favourably.
The appointees will undertake undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, and will be expected to play an active role in related research and publication. They will also be responsible for supervision of undergraduate honours projects and postgraduate dissertations at the Master’s and Doctoral level. The appointees are also expected to take on an appropriate amount of administrative duties.
Applicants should possess a PhD degree in Translation or other relevant fields, have experience in research and teaching at the tertiary level, and preferably some administrative experience; candidates with a convincing record of publications and success in securing external funding (such as GRF or ECS grants) will be prioritised. Those applying for Full Professor rank should demonstrate an outstanding track-record of publications and grant capture, as well as strong leadership potential and administrative capacities.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2019. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding. Outstanding candidates for the rank of Associate Professor or above may be considered for appointment with tenure.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
