Assistant Professor in Music
The Department of Music (http://mus.hkbu.edu.hk) has rapidly emerged as one of the leading institutions in Hong Kong to provide a rigorous performance curriculum supported by vibrant music-making activities. The Department currently has 14 full-time, 13 part-time and over 90 adjunct faculty members. Our artist teachers share our commitment to helping students reach a high level of musical and intellectual development. Many of our graduates have continued their studies in graduate schools worldwide, including top institutions for performance studies in the USA and Europe.
The Department now seeks outstanding applicants for one substantiable/tenure-track faculty position in Violin specialising in contemporary music performance and/or historical performance.
The appointee is expected to fully engage in creative and research works within his/her specialism, such as by giving solo recitals and collaborative concerts in significant venues. In addition, he/she should be able to teach a range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in two or more of the following areas:
a. String Performance and Pedagogy Seminar
b. Chamber Music Coaching and Collaborative Performance
c. Historical Performance Practice
d. Contemporary Performance
e. Other courses assigned by the Head of Department
The appointee is expected to be an active member in Department and Faculty-level administration, including (but not limited to) quality assurance, curriculum development, academic advising, supervision of undergraduate Honours Projects and postgraduate research, active participation in student recruitment, juries, and auditions.
Applicants should possess a doctoral degree in music performance, collegiate-level teaching experience, and a proven record of success in their chosen area of expertise.
Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract of three years commencing September 2017. Re-appointment thereafter is subject to mutual agreement and availability of funding.
Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
