Qualifications

The opportunity

EY is looking for data and analytics professionals to work within EY financial services technology practice to design and provide complex data/analytics projects using modern technology to solve our client’s most complex problems.

As with any role at EY, you are expected to wear a number of different hats, including coaching and developing junior members of the team, and supporting business development pursuits. In return you will have the opportunity to work with large clients, present to C-level executives, in Hong Kong and beyond in the financial services space.

Your key responsibilities

  • Provide innovative and practical designs that account for the endtoend approach of a function that is in line with our financial services client’s business objectives in the data and analytics space
  • Participating in one or several client projects at a time by organizing the detailed breakdown of tasks, contributing to and reviewing the work done by one to four junior consultants, highlighting areas of risks and reporting progress within your workstream, whilst facilitating the technical delivery of projects
  • Be part of large engagements or multiple small engagements, for example Analytics strategies and roadmaps, Big Data projects, as well as more traditional Information Management, Business Intelligence and Data Warehousing
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholders
  • Explaining complex technical concepts in clear understandable terminology.
  • Writing and contributing to proposals, including the development of proof of concepts/demos, before presenting to senior executives as part of general business development activities
  • Participating in business development activities for senior executives (e.g. attend client meetings to understand business needs, contribute in client proposal development).
  • Leveraging your technical experience on your domain of expertise to get known internally and externally and grow your field of expertise in terms of training, business development and exceptional project delivery.
  • Up-skilling yourself through professional development, formal training and internal projects.

Skills and attributes for success

  • Knowledge and practical experience with Agile methodologies (ideally SCRUM) and other modern project management methodologies
  • Able to adapt quickly and manage an environment of rapid change and development, and lead others through this process
  • Someone who isn’t afraid to get your ‘hands dirty’ as you develop software, reports or data code to solve challenging problems

To qualify for the role you must have

  • University degree, preferably in computer science, engineering, business and information, Statistics, Econometrics, Applied Mathematics or similar
  • 2 – 8 years of relevant experience in the data space as Data Engineer/Data Architect/Data Scientist/Data Analyst
  • Experience around areas such as IM / BI Architecture, Project Management, Solution Design, Data Migration, Transformation projects would be a benefit
  • Good communication and presentation skills (written and verbal) in English and preferably also in Chinese (Cantonese or Mandarin)
  • Experience within Financial Services (FS) or non-FS industry, or other consulting firms. Candidates with non-FS background are not expected to have in depth FS knowledge but should be able to explain how their experience can benefit banks, insurer or other financial services clients

Ideally, you’ll also have

  • An interest in developing your business acumen and experience in business development activities
  • Like the concept of a ‘T’ of technical knowledge – deep in your domain of data and/or analytics knowledge (whether that is integration, preparation, visualization, analytics science or architecture), but with an interest in working more widely across the financial services industry
  • An interest to work with EY professionals and clients to offer innovative integration and quality solutions for complex data problems, focused on data ingestion (ETL), or in preparing leading dashboards or analytical models to solve interesting and complicated problems

What working at EY offers

  • The EY Financial Services Technology Advisory (TA) team is continuing to grow and develop technology propositions aligned to market needs and demand, in particular in the space of Data and Analytics
  • The TA services works collaboratively with our clients and other EY teams to enhance their ability to use and interpret modern technologies and data, and develop their own enhanced capabilities to support better decision making, along with regulatory compliance within their business
  • Our consultants need the vision to articulate the big picture and the precision to see the smallest of details, all whilst focusing on the financial services domain. Technology and information are the assets which enable this, and our ITA practice provides innovative approaches to unlock this value, solving many of our clients’ biggest challenges
