Impact Assessment & Planning
ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning practice focuses on supporting development of projects in power, infrastructure, chemicals and natural resources. Our goal is always the same: assisting our clients in achieving project success, from planning through construction and operation, while meeting expectations for assessment and management of impacts on environmental, social, health and cultural resources. By helping clients bring these issues into the project planning process early, we seek to help our clients meet environmental/social performance objectives, enable savings in capital and operating costs, and avoid significant approval and other delays.
ERM combines experience with global standards, such as the Equator Principles and International Finance Corporation’s Performance Standards, with a thorough understanding of local regulatory systems and cultural sensitivities. We apply state-of-the-art assessment tools, from GIS to modeling and visualization techniques. We have also developed our own Impact Assessment Standard, which we use to maintain consistency and quality when other standards do not apply in a particular situation.
ERM’s Impact Assessment & Planning practice has been ERM’s highest growth practice globally, growing over 20% per year for the past 5 years alone. The practice currently has over 1,000 professionals globally, representing the full range of technical disciplines, with sector experience across the board. ERM is seeking motivated a motivated Senior or Principal Consultant to lead a growing social practice in our Hong Kong office. The role will be based in Hong Kong with the Impact Assessment and Planning team and cover both local and international projects in the areas of integrated Environmental and Social Impact Assessments (ESIA), Social Due Diligence, Land Acquisition and Resettlement Planning and Stakeholder Consultation strategy and execution.
The successful candidate will need to demonstrate a track record in a relevant social consulting discipline and in building and managing consulting teams.

Working with an ERM Partner, develop social consulting opportunities
Liaise with clients, where requested, to ensure that client needs are met and work is conducted to the highest standard.
Delivery of social consulting services including Land Acquisition and Resettlement Planning, Stakeholder Consultation, Social Due Diligence and Social Impact Assessment for industrial clients and financial institutions.
Liaise with academic institutions and governmental agencies responsible for research and issuance of regulatory standards on resettlement, social impacts management and Corporate Social Responsibility/Sustainability.
Represent the interests of the company in all dealings, and communications with ERM clients, potential clients, contacts and other businesses in the ERM Group.
Alongside an ERM Partner, build and manage a team of social consultants.
Master degree or above in a social-related discipline (e.g. Sociology, Public Policy/Administration, Development Studies) or equivalent work experience (Minimum 6 years for Senior Consultant and 8 years for Principal Consultant)
Familiarity with international standards (e.g. IFC Performance Standards)
Manage proposals, projects and people as per ERM policies, in compliance with our Quality Management System;
Communication skills and capacity to work as part of an integrated and multidisciplinary team
Chinese and English working capabilities
International education and/or experience
In depth experience in environmental/social impact assessment to local and international standards.
Experience in identifying issues and opportunities to determine client favorable outcomes, and supervise the delivery of consulting services accordingly;
Proven track record in interacting with Clients on technical, commercial and project management matters
