Merchandising Manager (All Apparel)

Our client is one of the top 10 global retailers and they are looking for a Merchandising Manager based in Hong Kong. The company has a strong presence in the US and in Europe, and they have established a highly successful sourcing business for a number of years in Hong Kong. Reporting into the Director of Sourcing, you will be supervising the sourcing operations in various categories in the clothing categories, and strategically plan and execute various sourcing operations.

As a senior member of the sourcing team, you will be responsible for:-

  • Merchandising Activities
    • Supervise and lead the merchandising operations, including T&A follow ups
    • Follow production plans and WIPs to ensure all orders are shipped on time
  • Communications with buyers
    • Build up strong communication platform and schedules with buyers and designers
    • Constant interaction and consultation on vendor capacity, order allocation etc
    • Observe and understand in detail the buyer's needs and provide as much support as possible
  • Vendor management
    • Analyse, evaluate and improve vendor's capabilities and performance
    • Source and develop products with vendors
    • Expand or consolidate vendor base when appropriate
    • Price negotiation and create detailed cost saving plans and methods
    • Lead-time negotiation along with regular trouble shooting issues such as deliveries and quality issues
  • Communications with internal support teams
    • Build trust with the quality and CSR teams in order to ensure all products sourced are done so ethically at the required quality standards
    • Assist in certain quality or CSR driven initiatives
    • Assist in any quality issues, claims or disputes between buyers/QA with vendors
    • Monitor potential quality issues and execute relative solutions to ensure they can be avoided

Requirements:-

  • Bachelor degree of above in Textiles / Fashion or related discipline
  • Self-driven, flexible, opened-minded and creative
  • Minimum 8 years relevant sourcing experience from major retailer's sourcing offices with at least 5 years management experience
  • Excellent written and verbal Cantonese, Mandarin and English
  • Strong knowledge in mens/ladies apparel - must have good knowledge in woven/knit/denim items
  • Ability to work in an extremely fast-paced environment
  • Frequent travelling
  • Experience using PLM systems an advantage
