Risk Management – Director

Location: Hong Kong-Hong Kong Island-Causeway Bay

Role Summary
  • This role is responsible for all aspects of the risk management framework for the Asia markets.  This includes fostering an environment of risk awareness; supporting local risk management in their function as a second line of defense; ensuring appropriate local governance structures; and compliance with the Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) risk identification and reporting requirements. 
  • The individual will participate in (lead) the quarterly Asia Risk Committee in a robust discussion of key risks, emerging trends and/or newly identified risks to create a risk profile for the Asia markets.
  • The individual will partner with other business and control functions across the Asia markets as well as the Enterprise.
Role Description:
  • Ownership of the Asia  International Markets Risk Management process
    • Work with the individual risk managers in each of the Asia Markets to ensure the International risk management framework is established and fully operational
      • Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) framework
      • Operational Loss & Near Miss (OLNM) framework
      • Solvency Reporting
      • Good governance and controls
    • Provide guidance to local risk managers to enhance their risk management framework
    • Attend and actively participate in individual Risk Committee meetings in each of the Asia Markets
    • Promote risk management as a second line of defense
    • Provide recommendations to enhance the existing risk management processes  both within the Asia Individual Markets and across International Markets
    • Analyze and aggregate risk data to identify cross market themes
      • For any emerging threats or trends raise and foster robust discussion with leadership
    • Provide on-going training and support for the businesses on risk management tools and best practices
  • Provide support to and gain support from the local risk teams
    • Act as a conduit for sharing information, guidelines and requirements
      • Ex:  Data Privacy, Information Protection,
    • Review both the top down and bottoms up risk assessments and be able to understand / challenge differences.
      • Facilitate a road towards consensus where divergent points of view exist
  • Participate (lead) the Asia Risk Committee (once established)
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness throughout the Asian markets
    • Host quarterly risk forum meetings with all risk managers to
      • Promote a culture of risk awareness
      • Discuss emerging risks and trends
      • Enhance sharing of information across the markets
      • Present changes to the risk framework and/or reporting requirements
    • Build relationships to enhance close collaboration with partners across the markets
      • Audit
        • Review audit findings through a risk lens to ensure the findings that pose the biggest risks receive appropriate attention.
        • Work with Asia audit manager to continue and enhance the quarterly reporting framework
      • Ensure awareness of emerging trends (risk / opportunities) by attending monthly MOR calls

  • Provide support to the Director of International Markets Risk Management in meeting various reporting or other requirements
  • Work with the International Markets Risk Management team to foster an environment of continuous improvement

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • 10+ years of experience
  • Knowledge of the Insurance Industry in Asia.
  • Knowledge of risk management principles, best practices, theories and processes preferred.
  • Ability to build good relationships with business partners.
  • Strong communication, facilitation, interpersonal and leadership skills with a proven ability to influence and motivate others.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work well in a dynamic, rapidly changing environment.
  • Demonstrated high level of ethics and integrity.
  • Good understanding of Cigna's businesses preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, SharePoint and general business software tools.
  • Prior experience in risk management, audit or compliance preferred.
