Job Description

Director, Business Development and Client Management

Location: Hong Kong-Hong Kong Island-Wanchai

Reporting to the Chief Distribution Officer, you will lead the Broker Sales and Client Management teams in developing and executing the sales strategy to grow the broker’s portfolio profitably and significant market share in Hong Kong.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate and follow up new business leads to meet sales, renewal persistency and profitability targets in line with overall strategy to drive corporate and individual insurance through the broker channel;

  • Research and develop new business opportunities within assigned industry categories/market segments, for all related products distributed by the broker channel;

  • Develop proactive strategy, with regular reviews, maximizing specific opportunities as they arise;

  • Assess prospective clients with existing group insurance arrangements to identify and develop new business opportunities;

  • Keep abreast of all developments in the market on both clients and competitors, and contribute to new product development/business initiatives;

  • Participate in specific projects, e.g. review of service standards, development of product literature as may be requested by the Manager;

  • Raise profile of HK business both internally and externally, establishing Cigna as a recognised authority in this field;

  • Prepare annual budgets and quarterly reviews and monitor performance / expenditure against these, initiating corrective actions as appropriate;

  • Report on relevant management information on regular basis in conjunction with operations, finance and underwriting;

  • Implement necessary controls and procedures in conjunction with functional managers as appropriate;

  • Liaise with internal departments, e.g. underwriting, claims, marketing, to ensure optimum service and retention of clients;

  • Liaise with other Cigna international offices to develop opportunities.




  • University graduate preferable;

  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in corporate and individual healthcare provision, with 6 years at management level with a focus not only on growth but also on profitability and client management;

  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal and influential skills;

  • Strategic sales management skills;

  • Comfortable working in a diverse and fast paced environment;

  • Ability to work independently to achieve ambitious new business targets;

  • Fluency in English is essential.
