Location: Asia Pacific-China-Hong Kong

Strategic Product Management is responsible for delivering on 6 core activities:




    Develop a clear forward-looking Strategic Product Outlook
  • Partner with business units to refine product strategy



  • Enable a competitive, differentiated and robust pipeline of innovative solutions
  • Drive Firm-wide innovation initiatives



  • Align the Firm’s resources behind BlackRock’s key product priorities
  • Serve as a critical connector across business units while driving decision making.


Product Development

  • Manage a transparent and disciplined new product approval, development and implementation process
  • Ensure every new product is of the highest quality and consistent with our objectives 


Product Health Reviews

  • Provide objective and rational analysis of our product set to optimize decision making
  • Conduct health reviews to continuously review our products from an investment performance and commercial standpoint


Product Economics and Rationalization

  • Eliminate unprofitable and non-strategic products from the line-up do the Firm can focus on the products that really matter to our clients
  • Assure economic discipline



Role description:


The role will be responsible for supporting the broad activities of the Strategic Product Management (SPM) group in APAC, with a focus on Asia ex-Japan markets. It will report to the Head of Asia ex-Japan SPM and be located in HK.

The position offers an opportunity to interact with many different groups within the firm, and has significant exposure to senior executives and product development decision making.


Core to the role is an ability to create and articulate strategic plans relating to existing and future products, taking into consideration client, industry, market, regulatory and technology trends. A key deliverable is the oversight and execution of product development initiatives including fund launches and closures, repositioning of existing products, innovating new product ideas in partnership with investment and distribution colleagues / clients. The candidate must be comfortable interacting with senior investors, product strategists, client relationship managers, and with colleagues from Marketing, Risk, Operations and Legal teams.


The ideal candidate has a strong interest in market / industry research, product design and structuring, possesses quantitative and analytical skills, is able to solve problems creatively, combined with a passion for driving commercial outcomes. A detailed understanding of international regulatory framework / practices, in-depth and end-to-end understanding of the asset management industry, and a high level of engagement are a must. Prior exposure to a broad range of investment products across different asset classes is necessary to succeed in this role. The position is an opportunity to work in a high pace, high visibility unit of the Firm


Responsibilities include:

  • Acquire and maintain a deep knowledge of the BlackRock global product set
  • Conduct generic and ad hoc studies on the industry landscape and client / market trends
  • Research stages of a product’s growth and maturity and setting standards and objectives [?]
  • Working with the team to design and articulate product priorities and longer term product strategy, including critical gap analysis
  • Bring ideas and perspectives from outside the firm including conducting competitor research
  • Build business cases around product ideas, in partnership with clients and investment teams
  • Manage the product approvals process
  • Drive the product design and structuring process, and oversee the implementation process
  • Partner with Legal teams to create and maintain offering documentation
  • Support the maintenance and evolution of the product governance framework
  • Support the maintenance of existing products, working with numerous stakeholders to reposition products for the purpose of enhancing commercial performance, or eliminate products, as appropriate
  • Help create and maintain key reference documents, related to new product ideas and existing product suite.



  • Bachelor's degree or higher
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in Financial Services, preferably in buy-side firms
  • Charted Financial Analyst (or working towards) or comparable qualification a plus
  • Good understanding of EMEA and AxJ regulatory frameworks pertaining to the offering of investment funds in our key Asian markets
  • Experience in facing / dealing with regulators and retail/institutional clients
  • Understanding of operational infrastructure supporting mutual funds



  • Ability to multitask and work in a fast-paced environment, and own delivery against tight deadlines and constraints
  • Strong analytical abilities, including attention to detail and affinity for data analysis
  • Strong project management, organizational and problem solving
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including ability to coordinate across multiple functions, geographies and stakeholders across the firm
  • Effective in operating in an open, interactive, collegial environment
  • Sound and unbiased judgment, professionalism and discretion
  • High level of self-motivation, with strong integrity and ethics
  • Proficiency in English is required, other language skills a plus, especially Mandarin, Japanese, Korean
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools
