Manager/Senior Manager, Planning and Controlling (Strategic Operations & Investment), Care Chemicals Asia Pacific

Location: HK-Hong Kong-Hong Kong

BASF’s regional headquarters is located in Hong Kong, overseeing more than 16,000 employees at about 100 sites across Asia Pacific. BASF’s Hong Kong office also houses regional functional units including Corporate Affairs, Finance & Controlling, Human Resources, Legal, Insurance & Real Estate, Operational Excellence, Procurement, Strategy & Investment Support, and Supply Chain Services.
Objectives of the Position
 
Reporting to the Head of Planning & Controlling of the regional business unit (RBU) Care Chemicals Asia Pacific, you will:
  • Provide efficient, comprehensive and high quality business planning and controlling support through creating and maintaining transparency about the economic impact of investment and CAPEX measures in the RBU
  • Act as the single point of contact for controlling related matters to the RBU’s Operations organization
  • Provide professional guidance to the site controlling community
Job Responsibilities
 
Team lead of site controller community
  • Act as team lead for the virtual team of Care Chemicals Asia Pacific’s site controllers in various countries and provide professional guidance
  • Drive efficiency and effectiveness in the site controlling community. Drives the creation and implementation of specific standards regarding controlling activities / processes on the sites.
  • Further develop the regional manufacturing KPI reports of all production sites and provide relevant training to local site management and site controlling
  • Provide regular manufacturing reports to regional and local operations management and propose counter measures for idle costs 
Strategic controlling
  • Act as focal point for all controlling related aspects of strategy definition, update and implementation.
  • Create transparency regarding the implementation progress of the respective strategies; proactively suggests counter measures to RBU management
  • Proactively challenge the resource allocation of the RBU (mid-term and long term) and serve as controlling support of the RBU management in related measures and analysis.
Investment project evaluation
  • Provide controlling input for strategic projects and develop comprehensive business plans by critically evaluating input from various internal stakeholders such as Sales & Marketing, Operations, Legal, Tax, local production sites, and facilitating discussions in global, regional and local levels
  • Evaluate possible M&A projects, support contract negotiations and due diligence analysis

 

Business partner for Operations team

  • Act as business partner for the RBU’s Operations organization and challenge and provide recommendation in all financial aspects
  • Establish and coordinate the communication and collaboration among Operations organization, production site management, site controlling and headquarter controlling in all manufacturing controlling related topics
Knowledge and capability build up
  • Build up expert knowledge and develop the RBU controlling team in business warehouse applications, investment evaluation, CAPEX planning and controlling expertise
  • Facilitate knowledge exchange in the regional investment and CAPEX community  and within Care Chemicals globally
Requirements
  • Holder of Bachelor’s degree or above in business management, engineering, accounting or related disciplines
  • At least 12 years relevant experience in investment evaluation / Mergers & Acquisitions / CAPEX controlling and site controlling
  • Solid understanding of product costing and investment evaluation
  • Outstanding communications and interpersonal skills to work in a diverse environment across global, regional and local levels
  • Be able to work independently and at the same time enthusiastic in team work and knowledge sharing
  • High proficiency in written and spoken English
