Manager, Communications, Monomers Asia Pacific

Location: HK-Hong Kong-Hong Kong

BASF’s regional headquarters is located in Hong Kong, overseeing more than 16,000 employees at about 100 sites across Asia Pacific. BASF’s Hong Kong office also houses regional functional units including Human Resources, Finance & Controlling, Corporate Audit, Legal, Insurance & Real Estate, Strategic Planning & Business Development, Supply Chain & Procurement, and Corporate Communications.
 
Objectives of the Position
 
  • Reporting to Senior Vice President, Monomers Asia Pacific, the incumbent will be responsible for the core communications of regional business unit (RBU), advising RBU Head and management team on all communications-related issues and strengthening the RBU’s market communications organization.
     
Job Responsibilities
 
  • Investment Communications – Develop communication plan and timeline for high level investment projects of new production plants. Conduct risk assessment and advise the communication approach during “Make or Buy” evaluation stage. Develop key messages, standby statements and Q&A in term of different scenarios. Plan and work closely with product and marketing team to develop pre-marketing campaign before, during and after the completion of local production plant for achieving the business growth. 
  • Market Communications – Plan and implement marketing communications strategy in industry-oriented approach for Monomers Asia pacific and industry team textile based on market and business segment strategies. Formulate and implement excellent integrated marketing campaign (customer events, promotions, fairs and exhibitions, advertising and online / social media etc.) for product launches, innovation, sustainability and industry target group etc.
  • PR function - Implement PR strategy in trade media. Screen trade publications. Foster good working contacts with trade journalists. Invite journalists for interviews. Ensure good coverage of Monomers-related topics in trade media. Coordinate briefing documents for media interviews, top management speeches, etc.
  • Branding – Develop and implement a consistent product branding strategy for the RBU as part of the global branding strategy. Systematic and continuous exploitation of branding opportunities within the RBU.
  • Issues Management – Identify emerging issues and support their successful resolution with all stakeholders.
  • Advocacy – Create transparency within Monomers Asia Pacific and to relevant BASF country colleagues on advocacy issues and support the development and implementation of advocacy strategies.
  • Crisis communications - Develop and continuously update crisis communication plans addressing all communication risks, in coordination with all relevant stakeholders in the countries and the communications function.
  • Internal and change communications – Support the Business Unit Head in efficient communications within the RBU, the Division and the Region. Develop and implement internal communication and employee engagement tools such as internal publications, bulletins, online etc.
 
 
Requirements
 
  • Bachelor degree in Journalism, Marketing or Mass Communications
  • At least 8 years working experience in public relations, project management, and marketing communication preferably both in agency and in-house in an international and multicultural environment
  • Strong competence in influencing and impact in order to lead the function in a complex region and influence global, regional and local counter-parts
  • Excellent creative and conceptual abilities (planning, analytical, creative, client and goal oriented)
  • Intercultural/international management and negotiation skills and good understanding of Asian markets and its cultures in particular
  • High commitment and willingness for working hands-on
  • Flexibility to travel in the region
  • Excellent English and preferably good Mandarin verbal and written communication skills
  • Good in presentations, event moderation and public speaking
  • Excellent working knowledge of basic computer programs (including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Photoshop, Templates, Webmaster)
