Job Description

Senior Manager, Business Portfolio Management

Location: HONG KONG

Responsible for driving the development and delivery of key programmes from cradle to grave including engineering changes. Work with business stakeholders on identifying, validating and implementing concepts, define guidelines for stakeholder management and communication, and align project outcomes with overall business and key stakeholder requirements. Contribute directly to the overall organization and business strategy both in terms of project delivery frameworks, governance and interfaces with the other functional areas of the business. Lead, manage and develop their team in its contribution to the achievement of the CTO’s objectives and provide clear direction and support in the development and delivery of its products. Ensure progress is monitored, risks identified and appropriate mitigation against non-delivery is invoked. Create and manage programme plan gateways, functional milestones and deliverables, managing constraints to ensure delivery to programme timing and budget with maximum effectiveness.

Role & Responsibilities:

Business Planning:

  • Facilitate the business planning cycle for various business units / operating companies
  • Define frameworks for performance evaluation
  • Measure and track performance via Balanced Scorecard

Strategy Review & Formulation:

  • Lead review and formulation of business strategies, vision, mission, core values
  • Act as sounding board to business leaders
  • Champion the use of strategic tools: scenario planning, portfolio optimization, stress test, etc

Strategic Projects: Lead or support strategic projects in areas such as

  • Performance improvement
  • Productivity improvement
  • Cost optimization
  • Market expansion
  • Restructuring

Corporate Initiatives: Champion company-wide corporate initiatives in areas such as

  • Quality
  • Innovation

Growth & Diversification: Support the company’s growth through entry into new businesses

  • Identify opportunities for growth and efficiency
  • Lead business case development for the same


   -Experience in consulting, operations or strategic planning:

o    Management consulting with a leading consultancy firm, OR

o    Functional experience (sales, marketing, finance, product development) or P&L experience – preferably in a multi-product line environment, OR

o    Strategic planning in a reasonably large business


    -Visionary and Strategic thinking skills – great at seeing patterns and connecting the dots

    -Business acumen – quick to grasp underlying revenue, cost and profit drivers

    -Sound judgement based on a combination of observation, analysis and experience

    -Proactive and constructive style of engagement with business leaders

-Communication (especially listening), influencing, and relationship building skills
