Job Description

Manager, Reigonal Life Actuarial, RILA, AXA Asia

Location: Hong Kong

The key responsibilities of this role are to:


1. Manage the team to provide high quality, timely consistent, standardized services to customers.

  • Continually provide quality and timeliness of work upon requests to ensure customer needs are met

  • Maintain good working relationships with customers through frequent communication and arrange monthly meeting with local entities

  • Provide professional analytical support to local country’s actuaries

2. Manage the team to provide high quality and insightful internal valuation analyses

  • Provide various regular and ad hoc actuarial analyses and projections to support business activities and projects for teams in the Regional Office and local entities

  • Challenge the results received from local teams on processes including margin analysis and Strategic Plan, and work with other regional teams to provide ad-hoc analyses 

3. Ensure that user requirements are fully understood, documented, and implemented for regular and ad-hoc production of modelling changes, reports and analyses:

  • Review end user reporting and analysis requirements to ensure high quality deliverables met users’ requirements

  • Discuss requirements with users and ensure that specifications are complete

  • Obtain sign-off on requirements from the user

  • Set up standard reports and analysis to be communicated with users

4. Recommend priorities, schedules and resources needed to conduct analyses in order to meet end users’ delivery requirements:

  • Estimate effort on specific ad-hoc tasks and analyses, skill levels required, set schedules and recommend turnaround times considering end users’ delivery requirements

  • Recommend and agree priorities with Local Entities

5. Manage the team to establish best practice in product pricing, valuation and analyses with well documentation and input checks from designated countries:

  • Ensure that all data, assumptions, etc. submitted for analyses are consistent with approved standards, assumptions, etc. to be used by AXA regionally or in the specific country

  • Ensure adequate documentation on all input data and production outputs for good quality control

  • Set up libraries of standard and ad-hoc analysis templates to facilitate efficient production of results

  • Ensure all input data are checked for accuracy and consistency and liaise with users to explain variances from prior period

  • Ensure consistency in pricing and valuation results across basis

6. Ensure the complete and smooth execution of peer review process that all relevant inputs used for analysis are consistent, realistic and in compliance with AXA standards and policies, refine the process as needed.   Provide 1 page commentary upon completion of the peer review.

7. Review all product management proposals to ensure they comply with product management guidelines:

  • Confirm that product pricing complies with all standards, limitations, etc. or that any deviations from standards have fully documented justifications

  • Be actively involved in supporting local product committees (LPMC), ensuring appropriate coordination ahead of committees and follow-up on outstanding product risk management issues

  • Based on the delegated authority by RPAC, approve or reject products with minor tweaks.

8. Ensure quality and timely delivery of valuation and planning analyses

  • Plan and work closely with local entities to ensure quality submissions
  • Ensure proper documentation of procedure and process

  • Provide insightful commentary to highlight issues and observation on business

  • Propose process improvement opportunities to all region

9. Support and priorities the Prophet Modelling BAU request from local entities

  • Support the regions when they experience issues in Prophet or models during the valuation process

  • Ensure the new product pricing is modeled in Prophet and the methodology used for pricing and valuation is consistent across regions



Experience/Qualifications :

  • At least 7 years financial services industry experience, including at least 1 years of managerial experience, and a Fellow of a recognized actuarial institute or equivalent
  • Solid experience of product development and pricing, valuation and Prophet modelling
  • Understanding of capital management, profit and value measure
  • Asian regional experience desirable
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills required.
