Assistant Manager, Asset Liability Management, Regional Investment Solutions - AXA Asia

The Purpose of the Role
  • Ensure an appropriate balancing of assets and liabilities across AXA Asia, in line with the local and regional risk appetites and regulatory constraints.
  • Assist manager in the elaboration of ALM standards and methodologies; adapt and enforce those standards in AXA Asia.
  • Ensure all new products launched have an appropriate asset allocation strategy.
  • Assist manager in developing ALM capabilities across AXA Asia to build-up local ownership.
  • Lead and engage with local entities on ad-hoc investment / ALM initiatives.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Ensure an appropriate balancing of assets and liabilities across AXA Asia.
  • Assist local entities in elaborating their strategic asset using results from ALM models.
  • Prepare Regional ALM report to be updated in the Regional Investment and ALM Committee.
  • Assist in development of hedging strategies for entities to optimize capital allocation and to remain within acceptable financial risk limits with the use of derivative instruments.
  • Provide expertise for the management of products with financial guarantees (including but not limited to GMxB products) and Participating businesses (e.g. dividend to policyholders) across the region.
  1. ALM standards and processes.
  • Participate, when delegated, in the Group Centre of Expertise on ALM.  Ensure that Group ALM standards are adapted and applied across Asia.
  • Review and recommend ALM analysis requirements in the region for approval by RIALC.
  • Ensure consistent, accurate and timely reporting in the Investment & ALM dashboard by all entities (Life and GI).
  • Review local models regarding ALM exercise to cater for the developments of the financial markets (e.g. new asset classes or financial instruments) and to improve quality of results (e.g. stochastic scenarios, risk-return profile of asset classes, correlations, etc…).
  • Reviews models as implemented by Regional Inforce and Life Actuarial and local entities.
  1. Ensure all new products launched have an appropriate asset allocation strategy.
  • Review product packs (focus on ALM section) before submission to RPAC.
     4.   Develop local ALM capabilities across the region.
  • Assist in training organization on ALM practices (E-learning, on-site visits, Webex).
  • Circulate updates on best practices from the Group and the region.

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications:
  • A financial services professional with 4 to 6 years experience in both actuarial and investment field.  Knowledge of Asia’s Life products and insurance regulations is a significant plus.
  • Background of actuarial ALM principles/methods.  Previous experience of making ALM recommendations for Life & GI companies is a strong plus.
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of actuarial modeling processes, especially those supporting asset allocation.
  • Strong understanding of capital, profit and value measures (e.g. Solvency II, MCEV, etc…) and drivers used at AXA.
  • Good financial skills including derivatives and hedging techniques.  Experience in investment management is a plus but not necessary.
  • Good communications and inter-personal skills.  Good English communication (verbal and written) skills required.
