Job Description

Head of Business Training and Development

Location: Hong Kong, HK

Position Objectives:

  • Lead the training and development function in AIA Hong Kong including both agency and partnership distribution
  • Develops, implements and champions agency-wide integrated Best Practice (BP) strategy covering Awareness, Screening, Education, Monitoring, and Correction to support agencies’ overall compliance to ethical requirements of Regulators and AIA Hong Kong



Management of departments under supervision to ensure alignment to company direction (45%)

  • Analyze and set up business process for BTDD
  • Establish, review, initiate and be responsible for the results of all the department functions and procedures of BTDD
  • Plan staffing needs
  • Work with CAO, Agency Distribution and other business units to design and execute programs for enhancing and improving the activity and productivity of the existing agency force
  • Collaborate with respective channel heads and department heads to analyze the training & development needs, define the training objectives and design the required programs accordingly
  • Lead BTDD to provide training support to agency so as to develop them with full competences and professionalism in meeting the ever demanding needs of various customer segments
  • Enhance the training programs for Financial Planners / AIA Premier Academy and continue to drive new initiatives to upgrade the quality and performance of Financial Planners / AIA Premier Academy
  • Observe market changes in both training and insurance to provide timely recommendations on changes deemed necessary for BTDD to CAO, Agency Distribution


    Development of Premier Agency (15%)

  • Work with CAO, Agency Distribution to formulate, develop and design strategies to enhance the productivity of agency through providing high level training support to agency and partnership distribution channels in order to develop them with full competences and professionalism in meeting the ever demanding needs of various customers segments.
  • Work with CAO, Agency Distribution to formulate, develop, design and execute development programs for company initiatives, including but not limited to PNA, PAL, iMO, and MDRT
  • Act as a consultant to agency leaders in the development and management of agency force as well as to advise on areas of service improvement, Best Practices and compliance to develop subordinates and agents


    People Development and Budget Management (20%)

  • Enhance people capabilities through establishing a robust trainer development programme which ties to career development roadmap
  • Drive employee engagement and foster desirable culture to empower and develop all team members 
  • Well allocate and use of resources to utilize department budget effectively 
  • Develop pipelines through coaching and on-going dialogues with direct reports and all Division Heads. 
  • Ensure an effective succession planning is implemented in the Department by leading the management team to review, identify, train and develop potential successors and implementing staff management activities to align with P2


    Responsible Officer of MPF in AIAHK (5%)

  • Ensure that AIAHK has established and maintains proper controls and procedures for securing compliance by AIAHK, and by each subsidiary intermediary attached to AIAHK, with the requirements under Part IVA of the MPFSO
  • Ensure that AIAHK uses its best endeavors to secure observance by its subsidiary intermediaries attached to AIA Hong Kong of the controls and procedures mentioned in the above paragraph


    Agency Best Practices and Assigned Functions (15%)

  • Work with CAO, Agency Distribution to drive work streams in AIAHK to ensure a smooth transition into the effective date of IIA (independent Insurance Authority)
  • Establish and develop agency Best Practice (BP) strategies and action plans with CAO, Agency Distribution and Chief Risk and Compliance Officer to ensure compliance initiatives and regulatory requirements on agency compliance are effectively and practically implemented in the context of AIA Hong Kong
  • Cultivate a BP culture in agencies through short term skills and knowledge training, long-term education, and regular district promotions
  • Increase awareness of agencies on relevant compliance rules and regulations and BP stories through regular communication channels and production of visuals
  • Adopt a win/win approach to motivate agencies to incorporate BP in daily sales and recruiting activities
  • Work and coordinate with respective departments / Company representatives, in particular ABDD and BTDD, for launch of new compliance and/or regulatory rules and regulations
  • Champion Project Right



  • University graduate with minimum of 10 years relevant working experience in the insurance industry and of which 6 years at managerial capacity
  • Solid agency development experience in terms of recruitment, retention and supervision
  • Excellent leadership and people management skills in managing a diverse team. Result-oriented, customer-oriented, aggressive, innovative, trustworthy and a team-player
  • Sound analytical and decision making capability
  • Excellent presentation, communications and facilitation skills
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese to be an effective spokesperson
