Associate Director, Actuarial and Underwriting

Location: Hong Kong, HK

Job Summary

To provide underwriting and actuarial risk solutions to Corporate Solutions and also to manage the profitability of Corporate Solutions


Job Responsibilities


  • Leading and managing the Team to deliver on key strategic plans in the Corporate Solutions segment. In particularly to assist in meeting key revenue targets such as Value of New Business and Annual New Premium measures whilst ensuring AIA’s pricing basis remains to be market competitive
  • Lead the team in supporting the sales teams by providing pricing, risk assessment and product terms on new quotation opportunities and client retention activities including attending tender and client presentations where appropriate
  • Develop retention strategies for the existing portfolio


Product Development

  • For new product proposals and product updates:  propose appropriate pricing and product terms
  • Dealing with reinsurance matters including negotiations on tender opportunities to ensure the most competitive reinsurance terms are in place
  • Analyze market information and pricing guidelines to support and provide consistency for product development and client retention strategies


Monitor and manage the profitability of GCS

  • Regularly review the financial report of GCS business and recommend to management any significant trends for attention and propose action to maintain the company's financial position
  • Monitor the experience of the existing portfolio and provide remedial advice where required. Understand the experience of particular segments, benefit design and industries allowing the sales team to specifically target profitable business yet also provide appropriate risk management solutions for those industries
  • Supervise the production of management reports and portfolio analysis for management
  • Devise and manage experience studies to support product pricing, underwriting and reserve basis setting


Staff Management

  • Identify potential of staff and provide coaching, technical training and motivation to ensure individual, team and departmental performance objectives are met


Job Requirements

  • University graduate with minimum 5-7 years actuarial experience
  • Fellowship in a recognized international actuarial professional body
  • Aggressive, self-motivated and customer orientated
  • Sound problem solving and decision making skills
  • Strong leadership including staff coaching skills
  • Good communications and interpersonal skills
  • Outgoing personality with strong presentation skills
  • Time management skills
  • Strategic planning skills
  • Computer literate in MS Office
  • Preference for proficiency in both spoken Chinese and English
